Welcome to Scouting and Troop One

We are in the midst of a rebuilding year and getting back to outdoor camping, learning scout skills, and having fun.   It has been a challenging two years for all of us.  Yet during that time, Scouts have learned new skills, made progress in ranks, earned Eagle, and ventured outside. We snowshoed at Beaver Lake, did orienteering at Tinkers Falls and Highland Forest, raced in the General Clinton Canoe Regatta, watched hawks at Derby Hill, winter camped near the Fire Tower on Bald Mountain near Inlet, and biked along the NYS Canal System. We also spent a week at Sabattis Scout Camp in the Adirondacks.

Consider Scouting and Troop One for your child:

As we move toward the New Year, we would like to invite you learn more about Scouting and Troop One by attending one of the in-person or on-line recruitment events we are planning to hold over the next two months at Erwin First Church, area schools, and other locations.

We are proud of the balanced program we offer which integrates skill and leadership development with outdoor fun, high adventure, and community service.  It clearly has had an the impact on the lives of our Scouts.  Just ask any of the more than 50 scouts that have earned Eagle Scout over the last 35 years.  They will tell you that Scouting has shaped their lives and that for fun and adventure, Troop One is the place to be.

If you can’t make one of these sessions or want more information, you can:

It is never too late to join Scouting!

Scout Meetings:

Our regular meetings are held on Tuesdays at 7:00 pm in Friendship Hall at Erwin First United Methodist Church.

Troop One continues to operate in a fashion that is consistent with COVID 19 Requirements and Guidelines (masks, social distancing, etc.).  For those concerned about having their Scout attend in-person meetings, we post requirement related materials on this site so that all scouts can advance in rank.

Outdoor Program:

The outdoor program we are planning for the spring would progressively introduce Scouts to camping in the outdoors.  It would move from day trips to overnights (perhaps in a cabin) and then to longer stays such as a family trip to New York City, a canoe regatta, and summer camp in the Adirondacks.

Leader's Challenge:  While you are at home, why not complete some requirements by cooking meals, tracking chores, and holding a family activity night?  Click here for details.
