Welcome to Scouting and Troop One

We are in the midst of a rebuilding year, getting back to outdoor camping, learning scout skills, and having fun.   It has been a challenging time, but we have seen Scouts learn new skills, make progress in ranks, earn Eagle, and venture outside. We worked on scout skills on an overnight at Highland Forest, climbed Bald Mountain with its Rondaxe Fire Tower in the Adirondacks, rafted on the Salmon River in Oswego County, and backpacked to a leantoo on Hunter Mountain in the Catskills.  This Sunday (Sept 22), we will build and operate a bouldering wall at the Wescott Street festival.  Why not join us there and learn more about our program.

Consider Scouting and Troop One for your child:

We would like to invite you learn more about Scouting and Troop One by attending a regular meeting or attending one of the recruitment events to be held at Erwin First Church, area schools, and other locations.  Our first regular meeting of the fall was September 10th at 7:00 p.m.

We are proud of the balanced program we offer which integrates skill and leadership development with outdoor fun, high adventure, and community service.  It clearly has had an the impact on the lives of our Scouts.  Just ask any of the more than 50 scouts that have earned Eagle Scout over the last 35 years.  They will tell you that Scouting has shaped their lives and that for fun and adventure, Troop One is the place to be.

If you can’t make one of these sessions or want more information, you can:

It is never too late to join Scouting!

Scout Meetings:

Our regular meetings are held on Tuesdays at 7:00 pm in Friendship Hall at Erwin First United Methodist Church.

Troop One continues to operate in a fashion that is consistent with COVID 19 Requirements and Guidelines.  For those concerned about having their Scout attend in-person meetings, we post requirement related materials on this site so that all scouts can advance in rank.

Outdoor Program:

The outdoor program we are planning for the year would progressively introduce Scouts to camping in the outdoors.  It would move from day trips to overnights nearby and then to longer overnight stays in the Adirondacks or other locations.  Trips we are considering include:  climbing Mt Ampersand in the Adirondacks, orienteering at Pratts Falls and Highland Forest (Scout O), a winter overnight in a  cabin a Highland Forest, Snowshoeing at Beaver Lake, a spring break trip to New York City to see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, and a week at Scout Summer Camp.
