Leader's Challenge

Boy Scouts - Family Life Merit Badge

Requirement 3. Prepare a list of your regular home duties or chores (at least five) and do them for 90 days. Keep a record (Click for Form) of how often you do each of them.

Requirement 5. Plan and carry out a family participation project such as a family activity event. After completing the project, discuss the following with your merit badge counselor:

The objective or goal of the project

How individual members of your family participated

The results of the project

Why Not Suggestion:

For the Family Activity Event, why not complete a requirement for Citizenship in the Community Merit Badge at the same time by watching one of the movies on the attached list followed by a family discussion about how the actions of one individual or group of individuals can have a positive effect on a community and about what it means to be a valuable and concerned member of a community

Boy Scouts - Cooking Merit Badge

Requirement 4. Cooking at home.

Plan menus for three full days (three breakfasts, lunches, and dinners) plus one dessert.

List equipment and utensils needed to prepare/serve the meals.

Create a shopping list for your meals showing the amount of food needed to prepare each meal, and its cost (This can be done on-line, as many stores have shopping apps that help with portions and cost)

Prepare 1 breakfast, 1 lunch, 1 dinner, and 1 dessert from the menus using at least five of the following cooking methods (i.e. baking, boiling, broiling, pan frying, simmering, steaming, microwaving, grilling, foil cooking, Dutch oven),

Time the cooking so that each meal ready at the proper time.

After each meal, conduct an evaluation.

Why not take pictures or make video of what you did? We'll post them here or on our facebook page.
